What are Stone Dummies (Cairns) ?
According to archeologist Robert Hafey of Rachel, ancient Native American Indians hunted by hiding behind piles of rocks overlooking game trails and water holes. Most of the mounds are at least two feet in height. To date, we have found three separate areas in Lincoln County with these man-made rock mounds.
An interesting observation are the Stone Dummies (Cairns) found overlooking two sides of this "Hunting Grounds Site."
To safeguard against vandalism, the names of the featured rock art (petroglyph) sites have been changed and the locations omitted.

Example of superimposition/superposition when rock is engraved over existing rock art. (Note the lower motifs stand out more indicating reworked lines.)
Also present are several possible atlatls helping to establish a timeframe for the age of the art on the panel.
According to many experts, the atlatl was replaced by the bow and arrow in western North America approx. 1500 years ago.
