Delamar, Lincoln County
Delamar is one of the most famous historical towns in Lincoln County. Once a a leading gold camp of southern Nevada with a population of over 3,000 residents, poor ventilation in the 35 miles of underground tunnels caused many "silica" deaths, and the town quickly gained the name, "The Maker of Widows."
The Delamar mine, up to around 1908, had an estimated production of over $20,000,000.
St. Thomas was a small settlement with a post office dating July 23, 1866 until 1938. The town was flooded in 1938, and has been under the water of Lake Mead. Most recently, however, due to low water levels, parts of the town have become visible. (Note these pictures were taken early 2003.)
